Description

This is a study of the historical and theological background that produced the Pentecostal Movement and caused the Assemblies of God to be formed. This course emphasizes the development of the Assemblies of God, its missions activities, and the people involved. The study also includes a discussion of the structure and organization of the Assemblies of God.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

1. Define the origins of the modern Pentecostal revival. 2. Explain the reasons for the formation of the Assemblies of God. 3. Trace the development of the Assemblies of God and its missions activities from 1914 to the present. 4. Compare early missions strategy with present-day methods. 5. Define the roles and characteristics of certain people (leaders and lay persons) who influenced the development of the Assemblies of God and its programs. 6. List and define the auxiliary groups that were formed to aid the missions programs. 7. Explain the characteristics of the early missionaries who laid the foundation of the Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM). 8. Describe the events that led to the formation of the Statement of Fundamental Truths. 9. Explain how the Statement has changed. 10. Explain the structure and organization of the Assemblies of God. 11. Identify the Assemblies of God’s historical emphasis on the ministry of the Holy Spirit: baptism and gifts. 12. Analyze and apply lessons and biblical principles learned from this course to life and ministry.
