Preaching in the Contemporary World
(2 ECTS)
Description
The purpose of this course is to help preachers
present life-changing messages that connect
with the world around them. The course will
focus on presenting messages that are true,
clear, interesting, and relevant. Students will be
challenged to present messages that are true to
the intent and power of Scripture. The course
will also examine the post-modern culture and
offer help in making messages relevant to the
needs and concerns of this audience.

Upon completion of this course, you should
be able to:

Distinguish between modernism and
postmodernism and explain how these
movements influenced the church’s
presentation of the gospel.

Defend the reliability of the Bible as the
preacher’s foundation.

Summarize the process of developing
sermons that effectively communicate
biblical truth.

Identify elements of effective sermons for
modernists and postmodernist
audiences.

Describe the elements of effective
communication in a modern and

Discuss the impact of the preacher’s
