The course will examine the ability of poetry to communicate at the emotional level and the place of poetry in communicating biblical themes. Wisdom is the thematic category of the literature. It focuses on the ancient pursuit of wisdom in Israel and looks at the genre, content, and social context of the wisdom writings. This course will examine themes that run throughout the wisdom tradition and the ways these themes develop and change in successive wisdom writings.
